Restoring missing teeth has advanced greatly in the last several years. All-on-4 is an innovative implant procedure which replaces a full arch of missing teeth without the need for a bone graft. At Rivers + West Family Dentistry, we offer this new approach for tooth replacement for suitable candidates.
With All-on-4 dentures, implants are placed as soon as the teeth are removed. This process does not require a bone graft since the implants are placed directly in the tooth socket immediately after the teeth are extracted. Because the implants are placed immediately, the bone tissue will not shrink or resorb, as it does over time when a tooth is missing. Instead, the implants help keep your jaw bone stimulated and growing so it does not lose structure.
Fixed Implant Bridges
Four implants are used to hold the full arch bridge in place. Generally, this is a two-phase procedure. Phase one is when the teeth are extracted, and implants are placed in the sockets. In this phase, an acrylic bridge is positioned over the implants. Healing of the extraction sites and integration of the bone and implants takes place over the next several months.
After the areas have had enough time to heal and the bone and implants have integrated, phase two begins. At this time, a permanent bridge is constructed. This final prosthesis will accommodate the changes in bone structure and gums. The permanent bridge is made to mimic natural teeth. It has the appearance of natural teeth and functions in the same way.
You may have had conversations about the necessity of getting dentures in the past, and perhaps you have been avoiding the process. If you still have some teeth but are in need of full dentures, consider the advantages of All-on-4 dentures. They provide the stability and security that are not available with traditional removable dentures.
